About the Town of Acton
Acton is a small, historic town located about twenty miles northwest of Boston. Ranked #16 on CNN Money’s Best Places to Live (2009), Acton combines an historical, traditional New England feel with a diverse community of 21,929 (2010 census). Its public schools are ranked highly by the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. News and World Report, including Acton-Boxborough Regional High School’s “Blue Ribbon” award in 2009.
The town has seen significant job growth in recent years, and crime rates have remained low.
Acton is divided into five village centers: Acton Center, North Acton, South Acton, East Acton and West Acton. Like many Massachusetts towns, it uses an open town meeting form of government, as it has since 1735. Colonial history is on display through various monuments and historical sights around town.
